Though the cold weather hasn’t quite kicked in yet (and maybe if we’re lucky it won’t),
winter is here. Here at Coastal Cuisine, we decided to dedicate the month of January to an exploration of the many off-season dining specials that many of Delmarva’s resort located restaurants feature as soon as the tourists head back to the big city once they pack away the sunscreen.
We opted to begin the month-long series with JAM Bistro by Eden on Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Host Michael Sprouse discovered during a recent Sunday visit that
the cozy bistro offered any entrée from the menu for only 15 dollars on Sunday evening. It was a great experience and after a conversation with General Manager Chris Capriotti, we decided to return with the CC crew and sample some of the tasty dishes that they offer on Thursday evenings with a two-course pre-fixed menu for $19.
Chris has been in the business since he started working in the food hospitality industry as a busboy at the age of 16. His many years in the biz have served him well and it was easy to see why JAM was so popular – especially with the locals off-season.
One of the interesting facts that Sprouse learned during his interview was that many of the local chefs use the off-season as a time to explore new culinary ideas that may make it onto the menu during the much busier times between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
